Question : PEACE KEEPING FORCE



(a) the names of countries in which the Indian Defence Troops are participating as `Peace Keeping Force`;

(b) the number of the defence staff (commissioned/non-commissioned rank) deputed abroad in these operations; and

(c) the expenditure incurred by the Government thereon?

MINISTER OF DEFENCE (SHRI PRANAB MUKHERJEE)

(a) Troops of the Indian armed forces (Army and Air Force) are currently participating in the following countries under UN Peace Keeping Missions:-


(i) United Nations Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

(ii) United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon and

(iii) United Nations Missions in Ethiopia & Eritrea.


(b) the number of armed forces personnel deputed in these operations, on date, is 3452 personnel, including 416 commissioned officers and 3036 non commissioned personnel.

(c) The expenditure incurred by the Government on account of troops cost, self sustainment of the troops in the Mission and for the contingent owned equipment is reimbursed by the United Nations.
