Question : INCREASE IN CREMATION FEES



(a) whether the Government is aware that British Government has increased the cremation fees considerably for the persons belonging to the Hindu, Sikh and Jain communities in Lecester which has displeased the Indian community;

(b) if so, the reaction of the Government thereto;

(c) whether the Union Government has taken up or proposes to take up this issue with the British Government;

(d) if so, the details in this regard; and

(e) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a): As reported by the mission in London, the Leicester City Council has proposed an increase in the cremation fee in their budget presentation in early 2010. The Indian Community in Leicester has submitted petition to the concerned authorities opposing the proposed increase in the cremation fee. The matter is under examination of the city council and final decision in the matter has yet to be taken.
