Question : Benefits of Ethanol

(a) whether the Government has given permission to experts for foreign visits to those countries which widely use ethanol to study the benefits of the use of ethanol;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether the said experts have submitted their report to the Government; and
(d) if so, the action being taken by the Government thereon?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PART (a) TO (d) OF THE LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION No. 317 TO BE ANSWERED ON 16.03.2020 REGARDING BENEFITS OF ETHANOL BY SHRI CHHATAR SINGH DARBAR AND SHRI MANSUKHBHAI DHANJIBHAI VASAVA.
(a) to (d) : Ministry officials and OMC officials dealing with bio fuel had in the past visited foreign countries to learn about bio fuel. Visit to Brazil was also undertaken to understand the implementation of the Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) programme with key focus on second generation (2G) ethanol. India is a member of International Energy Agency’s Technology Collaboration Programme (TCP) on Bio-Energy. This collaboration programme has been set up with the aim of improving collaboration and information exchange between countries that have national programme in bio-energy research, development and deployment. India has been attending these meetings and in the process getting benefit of the global development in the programme. The inputs received during these meetings/visits are appropriately used by the Government in promoting bio-fuels in the country including for EBP programme.
