Question : COVERAGE OF SERVICES UNDER TAX NET



(a): The details of services coming under the tax net ;

(b) : Whether the Union Government has received a huge amount of service tax during the current financial year ;

(c) : If so, the details thereof ;

(d) Whether the Government proposes to bring TV Channels and broadcasting agencies into the service tax net ;

(e) If so, the details thereof; and

(f) The time by which the decision is likely to be taken in the matter ?

(a): Taxable services are specified under section 65(105) of the Finance Act, 1994.

(b) & (c): Service tax collection for the period April, 2006 to September, 2006 is Rs.15,971 crore (provisional);

(d ), (e) & (f): Service provided by a broadcasting agency or organization to a client in relation to broadcasting in any manner is leviable to service tax under section 65(105) (ZK) of the Finance Act, 1994, with effect from 16th July, 2001.
