Question : National Law Universities

(a) The number of the National Law Universities(NLUs) or the National Law Schools (NLS) set up and functioning in the country;

(b) whether the Government also proposes to set up a National Law School/ University in each State/ UT, if so, the details thereof, State/UT-wise;

(c) whether the Government proposes to nationalize the National Law Universities (NLUs) and provide them the same status as accorded to other National Institutes and if so, the details thereof;

(d) whether the Government is also planning to undertake measures to provide adequate complaint mechanism in NLUs keeping in mind the constant strikes and protests therein and if so, the details thereof along with the complaints/ protests during the last two years and the current year; and

(e) the steps taken by the Government to include all National Law Universities in the list of institutions of national importance?

(b), (c) & (e) No sir, at present there is no proposal pending with this Ministry to set up a National Law School/ University in each State/ UT, nationalization of National Law Universities (NLUs) and inclusion of all national law universities in the list of institutions of national importance.
