Question : REVIVAL OF SUGAR MILLS AND TEXTILE MILLS



(a) the number of cases relating to revival of textile mills and sugar mills pending with BIFR;

(b) the present status of the cases;

(c) the time by when these mills are likely to be revived; and

(d) the steps proposed to be taken for the revival of these industries?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF FINANCE (SHRI BALASAHEB VIKHE PATIL) :

(a) and (b) Board for Industrial & Financial Reconstruction (BIFR) has reported that 171 sick textile companies and 12 sick sugar companies cases are pending with the BIFR. The details of cases pending at various stages with BIFR are as under :-

(c) and (d) The sick industrial companies registered with the Board are dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the Sick industrial Companies (Special Provisions) Act, 1985. The Board sanctions rehabilitation schemes whereverfeasible for revival of the sick industrial companies with measures like restructuring of the capital, induction of fresh funds by the promoters, merger with other companies, change of management, reliefs and concessions by Financial Institutions/ Banks, reiief and concessions by the State and Central Government in the form of re-schedulement for their dues.
