Question : ESTABLISHMENT OF EXPRESS PARCEL POST CENTRES



(a) whether the Government has identified and adopted universal postal services obligations and is delivering the same at affordable prices in Andaman & Nicobar Islands;

(b) if so, the details of establishment of Express Parcel Post Centres in Andaman & Nicobar Islands;

(c) if not, the reasons therefor; and

(d) the number of Rural Post Offices provided with full infrastructure to cater to the needs of the General Public?

(a) Yes, Sir. Department of Posts provides sale of stamps and stationery, daily delivery of dak at the doorstep of the customers and collection of mails at regular intervals from the letter boxes through out the country including Andaman & Nicobar Islands

(b) There are two Express Parcel Post Centres functioning in Andaman and Nicobar Islands at Port Blair Head Post Office and Aberdeen Bazaar Post Office with effect from 1/4/2002.

(c) Does not arise in view of the B above

(d) There are 89 Post Office in the rural areas in Andaman and Ncobar Islands, which provide the same facilities as available in Post Offices of similar status in any other part of the country.
