Question : Capacity Building of Elected Women Representatives of Panchayats

(a) whether the Ministry has launched a nationwide programme for capacity building of Elected Women Representatives of Panchayats and a training programme for trainers of women panchayat leaders in collaboration with the Ministry of Panchayati Raj;
(b) if so, the details thereof along with the number of fields in which this training would be given;
(c) the number of States initially covered under this programme; and
(d) the benefits likely to accrue to elected women representatives along with number of beneficiaries through this programme?

(a) to (d) : Yes, Madam. The Government of India has initiated a pilot programme to build the capacity of Elected Women Representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions in a phased manner. The Programme aims to impart knowledge to the elected women representatives about the role of Panchayati Raj Institutions at different level, details about development schemes and programmes, resources available, participatory planning and asset creation and public works and it also aims to impart information, communication Technology and leadership skills to the Elected Women Representatives. Initially, the State of Jharkhand has been selected for the pilot programme.
