(a) & (b): Comparable figures of per capita income (Gross
National Product) for India and other countries are
furnished in Statement annexed. India ranks at 177 in
the 209 countries in the world as per World Bank
Atlas, 1999.
(c) To raise per capita income in the country,
accelerating the growth rate of the economy with
stable prices and containing the growth rate of
population are essential. Some of the steps to
achieve these are detailed in the Ninth Five Year
Plan.
