Question : ELECTRIC LINES IN RAILWAYS



(a) whether the Railways propose to lay more electric lines for lowering the dependence on diesel locos in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the steps taken/being taken in this regard;

(c) the funds allocated for the purpose during the current financial year; and

(d) the time by which all the railway tracks are likely to be electrified in the country?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (d) OF UNSTARTED QUESTION NO.4258 BY SHRI GAJANAN KIRTIKAR, SHRI SUDHEER GUPTA, KUNWAR HARIBANSH SINGH, SHRI ASHOK SHANKARRAO CHAVAN AND SHRI SANJAY KAKA PATIL TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 20.04.2015 REGARDING ELECTRIC LINES IN RAILWAYS.

(a) & (b): Yes Madam. Indian Railways have already embarked upon a major programme to speed up electrification of Railway Lines as can be seen from the targets and achievements of 10th, 11th and 12th Five Year Plans (FYP) under Plan Head ‘Railway Electrification’.

 Plan	Target	Achievement	in Route Kilometers (RKM)	in Route Kilometers (RKM) 10th	1800	1810 11th	4500	4556 12th	6500	4042 RKM electrified during 2012-15 against	the proportionate target of 3900 RKM. 
(c): During the current financial year i.e. 2015-16, an outlay of `2162.98 crores has been provided for electrification.

(d): Electrification of railway tracks is decided based on financial viability, traffic volumes and operational flexibility. Depending upon the overall availability of resources, the targets for electrification of rail lines are fixed on yearly basis.
