Question : City Gas Distribution Projects in Metro Cities

(a) the details of the status of the City Gas Distribution project in Bengaluru and other metro cities;
(b) whether the timelines for the projects have been met in Bengaluru and other metro cities and if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether the supply of piped natural gas has begun in any localities in Bengaluru and other metro cities and if so, the details thereof;
(d) whether piped natural gas would be more cost effective for citizens than LPG cylinders and if so, the details thereof.
(e) the timeline for the completion of the project in each of the operating metro cities; and
(f) whether the City Gas Distribution project or any other similar project is also being expanded to other regions and if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (f) Piped Natural Gas (PNG) offers greater convenience in use by the consumers than LPG cylinders. Providing PNG domestic connections and establishment of CNG stations is part of development of City Gas Distribution (CGD) Networks and the same is being carried out by the entities authorized by Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB). After completion of 11A CGD Bidding round, 295 Geographical Areas (GAs) covering about 98% of the population and 88% of total geographical area of the Country spread over around 630 districts in 28 states/UTs including Bengaluru and other metrocities situated within the GAs, have been covered under the CGD network. Authorized entities are to provide PNG domestic connections and install CNG stations as per their Minimum Work Plan (MWP) and the timeline determined by PNGRB.
As on 31.05.2022, CGD entity has provided 2,27,259 PNG domestic connections and established 55 CNG stations in Bengaluru Rural and Urban districts GA.
