STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (d) OF THE LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 33 RAISED BY SHRI VISHNU DAYAL RAM & SHRI TAMRADHWAJ SAHU HON’BLE MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT TO BE ANSWERED ON 25TH FEBRUARY 2015 REGARDING OPENING OF KENDRIYA VIDYALAYAS
(a) New Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) in the Civil Sector are opened when there is a concentration of at least 500 employees of the Defence services/Government of India/Central Government Undertaking individually or jointly (250 in the case of Special Focus Districts) or when there is minimum potential enrolment of children of specified categories which may be 200 or an average of 30 per class whichever is more, subject to meeting land requirement of 04 acres in Metropolitan City, 08 acres in Hilly and Urban Areas & 10 Acres in Semi-Urban/Rural Areas free of cost for setting up of a new KV. Besides, the concerned sponsoring authority is required to provide temporary accommodation to run the school during construction period as well as residential accommodation to the extent of atleast 50% of the total requirement for KV teachers and Staff.
The norm for opening of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas
(JNVs) is one per district, subject to the concerned state/UT Government offering 30 acres of suitable land, free of cost and sufficient temporary accommodation free of rent to accommodate 240 students and staff for 3-4 years till the JNV is constructed.
Presently, 1099 Kendriya Vidyalayas and 589 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) are functioning in the country. The State / UT-wise number of functional KVs and JNVs are given in Annexure-I.
(b) No such proposal is under consideration.
(c) The details of requests received for opening of new KVs during the last three years i.e. 2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-14 and current year is given in Annexure-II. The details of KVs opened during the last three years and current year are given in Annexure-III. 02 JNVs were also opened in the State of Manipur in the year 2011-2012 at Senapati & Ukhrul Districts.
(d) 08 (Eight) Kendriya Vidyalayas were closed during the last three years i.e. 2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-14, and current year, as per details given in Annexure-IV.
