Question : Employment in MSME Sector

(a) the number of persons for whom target has been set by the Government for providing employment in Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs); and

(b) the time likely to be taken to achieve these targets and the extent to which MSMEs are likely to be affected as a result thereof?

(a)&(b): Ministry of MSME implements Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), which is a credit linked subsidy programme, aimed at generating self-employment opportunities through establishment of micro-enterprises in the non-farm sector by helping traditional artisans and unemployed youth. Under this programme, subsidy of 25% to 35% of the project cost upto Rs. 25.00 lakh is provided as Margin Money Subsidy. Targets and achievements under the Scheme for the financial years 2017-18 and 2018-19 are given below.

Under the Scheme, a tentative target of assisting 73241 projects with an estimated employment generation to 585927 persons, has been fixed for the financial year 2019-20.
