Question : ROAD SAFETY COMMISSIONERATE



(a) whether the Government proposes to constitute a Road Safety Commissionerate;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the details and percentage of cess levied by the National Highways Authority of India for studies on road safety matters and for development of ultra modern technologies; and

(d) the steps taken by the Government to create awareness among masses using National Highways?

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF ROAD TRANSPORT & HIGHWAYS(SHRI MAHADEO SINGH KHANDELA)

(a) & (b) Union Cabinet has approved the proposal of this Ministry to create a National Road Safety & Traffic Management Board through an Act of Parliament to oversee road safety activities in the country.

(c) At present no such cess is being levied by National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

(d) The Government has been undertaking programmes on road safety through print and electronic media on continuous basis to generate awareness among the general public.
