Question : IMPACT OF FALL IN DIESEL PRICES ON FREIGHT CHARGES



(a) whether the Government is aware that the truck owners are suffering huge losses as trucks having capacity to travel a distance of 600 kms. per day are travelling only upto 300 kms. per day due to poor conditions of NHs;

(b) if so, the reaction of the Government thereto;

(c) whether the Government has formulated any scheme to promote relief to the private transporters suffering losses as a result of poor condition of NHs; and

(d) if so, the details and status thereof?

(a) No, Madam. However, as per the Transport Corporation of India - Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (TCI-IIMC) joint study on operational efficiency of freight transportation by roads in India carried out during 2011-12 for selected routes indicates that Indian roads are of poor quality, lacking maintenance and pedestrians and animals having uncontrolled access to roads, resulting in low average speed of vehicles, break-downs and accidents.

(b) Does not arise in the view of (a) above.

(c) No, Madam.

(d) Does not arise in view of above (c) above.
