Question : COMMITTEE ON LAND REFORMS



(a) whether the Government proposes to form a committee on ‘State Agrarian Relations and Unfinished Task in Land Reforms’;

(b) if so, the terms of reference thereof;

(c) whether the Government proposes to formulate National Land Reforms Policy and to set up the National Land Reforms Council to facilitate land reforms;

(d) if so, the details in this regard; and

(e) the time by which the National Land Reforms Policy is likely to be implemented?

(a) to (e): A Statement is laid on the Table of the House.

Statement referred to in reply to Lok Sabha Starred Question No.137 due for reply on 23rd November, 2007 regarding ‘Committee on Land Reforms’.

(a) to (e): Yes, Sir. It has been decided by Government of India to constitute a “Committee on State Agrarian Relations and the Unfinished Task in Land Reforms” under the Chairmanship of Minister for Rural Development and a “National Council for Land Reforms” under the Chairmanship of the Prime Minister. The composition, terms of reference, etc. of the Committee and the Council are being finalized.
