FREE COACHING SCHEME FOR SC AND OBC STUDENTS

Will the Minister of SOCIAL JUSTICE AND EMPOWERMENT be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Union Government is implementing free coaching scheme for Scheduled Caste (SC) and Other Backward Classes (OBC) students across the country to compete in the competitive examinations for various recruitments;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) the details regarding the type of coaching and eligibility for taking free coaching by SC and OBC students;
(d) the total number of students benefitted under the coaching scheme during the last three years, State-wise;
(e) the total number of study centres in Tamil Nadu giving such free coaching to these students, district-wise; and
(f) the total number of SC and OBC students from Tamil Nadu who have enrolled and availed free coaching under this scheme, district-wise?

(a) to (c): Yes, Sir. This department is implementing the Free Coaching Scheme for Scheduled Caste (SC) and Other Backward Classes (OBC) students to enable them to appear in competitive exams for obtaining admission in technical and professional courses and for securing appropriate jobs in public/private sector.
Students belonging to SCs and OBCs having total family income from all sources of Rs.8.00 lakh per annum or less are eligible for assistance under the scheme. In addition to the course fees as per entitlement for the course under scheme guidelines, eligible students are also paid a monthly stipend of Rs. 3000 per student for local and Rs. 6000 per student for outstation students.
(d): Under this scheme, available slots are allotted amongst the institutes empanelled under the Scheme. The details of state-wise empanelled institutes and total number of students benefitted during the last 3 years is attached.
(e) and (f): In Tamil Nadu, one institute in Chennai district was empanelled during 2016-17 for under the Free Coaching Scheme and during the last 3 years 300 students were enrolled and availed free coaching from this institute under this scheme.
