Question : Conservation of Cultural Identities

(a) whether the Government is conducting any programme in order to conserve cultural identities in urban areas;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the problems faced in conducting so; and

(c) if not, the plans for the future?

(a) & (b) To protect, promote and conserve various forms of folk art and cultural identities throughout the country, the Government of India has set up seven Zonal Cultural Centres (ZCCs) with headquarters at Patiala, Nagpur, Udaipur, Prayagraj, Kolkata, Dimapur and Thanjavur. These ZCCs organize various cultural activities and programmes on regular basis all over India including urban areas.

Apart from this, the Government of India has been organizing Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsavs (RSMs) since 2015 at various places in the country with details as under:

i. New Delhi (November, 2015 and October, 2016)
ii. Varanasi (December, 2016)
iii. Bengaluru & Tawang (March, 2017)
iv. Gujarat (October, 2017)
v. Tehri (May, 2017)
vi. Karnataka (January, 2018)
vii. Madhya Pradesh (February, 2018 & October, 2019).

No major problems/constraints have been faced by the Ministry so far in conducting such programmes.
