Question : SHIFTING OF REGIONAL OFFICE OF UNITED COMMERCIAL BANK



(a) whether the Government propose to shift the regional office of United Commercial Bank from Silchar;

(b) if so, the reasons therefor;

(c) whether the Government have received any representation in this regard; and

(d) if so, the details thereof and the action taken by Government in this regard ?

(a) and (b):- As per the extant branch licensing policy, the question of opening, closing or shifting of regional/administrative/zonal, controlling offices of banks is left to the discretion of the banks. UCO Bank has reported that it is considering a proposal for re-organisation of its administrative structure in the north-eastern States and its Silchar regional office would fall under the ambit of the proposal. UCO Bank has further reported that it has not taken any decision in the matter of shifting its regional office from Silchar.

(c) and (d):- The bank has further reported that it had received a letter from Shri Karnendu Bhattacharjee, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) regarding closing of the bank`s regional office at Silchar, which has been replied to by the bank.
