Question : NEW TEXTILE INDUSTRIES



(a) the number of textile mills functioning in the country, State and Union Territory-wise;

(b) whether the Government proposes to promote and set up new textile industries, particularly in the rural areas in the country, so as to arrest migration of rural folk to urban area; and

(c) if so, the details thereof, State and Union Territory-wise?

(a): As on 31.05.2011, 1443 cotton/man-made fibre textile mills (Non-SSI) are functioning in the country. The state-wise/U.T.-wise details are as under :-

(b) & (c): Government does not propose to set up any textile mill. However, government provides the conducive environment by promoting various schemes for promotion of textile industry throughout the country. Some of the schemes introduced by the government for promotion of textile industries are Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS), Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (SITP), Welfare of Powerloom Workers through Group Insurance Scheme, Group Workshed Scheme for decentralized Powerloom Sector, Integrated Scheme for Powerloom Cluster Development.
