Question : FLOOD CONTROL



(a) the details of life and property lost and population displaced in the country due to floods and river erosion during each of the last three years and the current year, particularly in Eastern Uttar Pradesh by Ganga & Ghagra rivers;

(b) whether any scheme is under consideration of the Government to deal with the problem of floods and river erosion in Eastern Uttar Pradesh; and

(c) if so, the details thereof and the time by which it is likely to be implemented?

(a) The Year-wise flood damage data for all India as well as Uttar Pradesh for the years 2011, 2012 and 2013 as maintained by Central Wate Commission and Ministry of Home Affairs is given in Annex-1. The figures for Uttar Pradesh include the flood damage in Eastern Uttar Pradesh in Ganga & Ghagra river basins.

(b)& (c) The Government of India had launched Flood Management Programme(FMP) during XI Plan for providing central assistance to all State Governments including the Government of Uttar Pradesh. The Cabinet approved continuation of FMP during XII Plan. The details of funds released under FMP during XI and XII Plans ( upto 31.03.2014) are given in Annex-2.
