Question : OUTSTANDING DUES OF BHEL AGAINST IRAQ



(a) the achievements made by the Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) during the last three years;

(b) whether there is any outstanding dues of the said company against Iraq;

(c) if so, the details thereof;

(d) the time by which the said dues are likely to be recovered from Iraq;

(e) whether some existing assignments of BHEL in Iraq which are due to be completed; and

(f) if so, the details thereof?

(a) On the export marketing front, physical export order in-flow of Rs.2,970 crores was achieved by BHEL during the last three years. These included prestigious projects namely:

-	600 MW Power Project in Libya
-	140 MW Power Project in Oman
-	20 MW Co-generation Project in Indonesia
-	68 MVA Hydro Power Project in Taiwan
-	123 MW Gas Turbine Generator from China
-	40 MW Gas Turbine Generator from Kazakhastan
-	123 MW Gas Turbine Generating Unit and 57 MW Steam Turbine Generating Unit from Sri Lanka
-	4 large size Gas Turbine Generating Units from Iraq
-	330 KV Substations from Zambia.


(b) & (c): Rs.13.89 crores is outstanding against the supplies related to Baiji Power Project contract executed under `Oil for Food` Programme. These supplies have been made in May/June,2003 after the Iraq War upon clearance from the U.N.

(d) The dues are likely to be recovered in three to four months.

(e) & (f): Supply of two sets of 123 MW Frame 9 Gas Turbine and Generator Equipments for Rumailla contract received from SITEA International, Switzerland who in turn received the contract from Iraq under `Oil for Food` Programme is yet to be completed.

The contract value is Rs.200 crores approximately. Supplies worth Rs.181 crores approx. have been shipped to an alternate location Zerka, Free Trade Zone, Jordan as per UN advice. This amount will be due for payment only after customer/UN inspection is completed.
