Question : REHABILITATION CENTRES FOR WOMEN



(a) the number of homeless women in the country;

(b) the number of rehabilitation centres for them, State-wise;

(c) whether the Union Government proposes to increase such centres with the co-operation of State/Voluntary agencies;

(d) if so, the details thereof alongwith the action taken by the Government in this regard; and

(e) the details of funds allocated and utilized by the State Government in this regard during each of the last three years and the current year, State-wise?

THE MINISTER OF STATE OF THE MINISTRY OF WOMEN AND CHILD DEVELOPMENT (SHRIMATI KRISHNA TIRATH)

(a) The Government has not conducted any survey to ascertain the numbers of homeless women in the country.

(b) A state-wise list of number of rehabilitation centres (Swadhar Shelter Homes & Short Stay Homes) is at Annexure-I.

(c) & (d) Yes, in the year 2008-09, the Government has sanctioned 81 Swadhar Homes and 30 Short Stay Homes across the country. In the current financial year. 17 Swadhar Homes have been sanctioned till 20.7.2009.

(e) Swadhar and Short Stay Homes are Central Sector Scheme being implemented by the Minstry and Central Social Welfare Board respectively. Under these schemes funds are directly released to the implementing agenices, which may include organisations of State Governmets. A statement showing funds released and utilised by State Government/ Government Agenices under these programmes is at Annexure-II
