Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT
(DR. SATYA PAL SINGH)

(a) to (c): Under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme of Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha
Abhiyan (RUSA), inter alia, central support is provided for construction of new Model
Degree Colleges (MDCs) in Aspirational Districts identified by the NITI Aayog and in
unserved and underserved districts in North-Eastern and Himalayan States.
Jharsuguda district in the State of Odisha is not included in the list of Aspirational
districts identified by NITI Aayog and hence, as per the norms of the scheme, is not
eligible for central support for MDC under RUSA. However, under RUSA four colleges
in Jharsuguda district namely (i) Women’s (Degree) College, Jharsuguda, (ii) Laxmi
Narayan (Degree) College, Jharsuguda, (iii) Brajarajnagar (Degree) College,
Brajarajnagar and (iv) Belpahar (Degree) College, Belpahar have been approved
central assistance of Rs. 2 crores each under the component of “Infrastructure Grants to
Colleges”.
