Question : Investment in Solar Panels

(a) the details of the investment made by the Government in solar panels in Punjab and especially in Ludhiana;

(b) whether the Government proposes to increase this investment;

(c) if so, the details thereof;

(d) whether the Government proposes to invest in any other renewable energy
sources such as hydro-thermal or wind energy in Ludhiana; and

(e) if so, the details thereof?

(a) The Government of Punjab has reported that an investment of Rs.77.50 crore in shape of Central Financial Assistance (CFA) under Canal Top Solar PV Power Projects and Grid Connected Roof Top Solar Power Projects has been made. Out of this, CFA of Rs.9.36 crore has been released for Canal Top Solar PV and Roof Top projects in District Ludhiana.

(b) and (c) The installation of solar plants is demand driven. The Government has set a target of installing 100 GW solar power in the country by 2022. Depending on requirement of a state, developers’ interest and other factors such as land availability, solar potential sites etc. investment is made.

(d) and (e) The Government of Punjab proposes to invest in Renewable Energy sources mainly Solar, Biomass, and Co-generation in Ludhiana District.
