(b) Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is implementing a Central Sector Scheme, ‘Self Employment Scheme for Rehabilitation of manual Scavengers’ (SRMS) under which identified manual scavengers and their dependents are provided the following rehabilitation benefits:
(i) Onetime cash assistance of Rs.40,000/- to the identified manual scavenger.
(ii) Skill Development Training with Stipend of Rs.3,000/- per month for the training period upto two years or less for the identified manual scavenger/dependent family member.
Loans upto Rs. 15 lakh for income generating activities with capital subsidy upto Rs. 3,25,000/- are provided to the identified manual scavenger/dependent family members at concessional rate of interest of 5% per annum (4% for women) for projects upto Rs.25000/- and at the rate of 6% per annum for projects above Rs.25000/-State-wise details of benefits provided under SRMS to identified manual scavengers including those in Tamil Nadu are at Annexure-I.
(c) Details of number of identified manual scavengers/their dependents who have been provided skill development training during the last three years is at Annexure-II.
Fifty safai karamcharis in the district of Madurai, Tamil Nadu have been provided skill training under the skill development training programme of National Safai Karamcharis Finance and Development Corporation during 2016-17.
