Question : CATEGORY WISE REPRESENTATION IN SERVICE



(a) the total number of Government employees working in Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, category-wise;

(b) the number of employees belonging to SCs/STs/OBCs working in the Ministry, category-wise;

(c) the number of vacant posts for SCs/STs/OBCs in the Ministry category-wise and dates from which these are vacant as on 31 March, 2001;

(d) whether the Government have taken any action to implement the O.M. of Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions dated 29 August, 1997 to clear the backlog and fill up the vacant reserved posts of SCs/STs/OBCs;

(e) if so, details thereof; and

(f) the steps taken so far in this regard by the Government?

(d) to (f)The Ministry intimated vacancies to DOPT from time to time to fill up the backlog and current vacancies keeping in view the 50% limit on reservation as per the provisions contained in Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances& Pensions O.M., dated 29th August, 1997. Persons were/are being nominated by DOPT on the basis of examination conducted by SSC to fill up the vacancies including reserved categories in DR Quota. They have been/are being appointed as and when their pre-appointment formalities are completed. The DOPT also nominates candidates in Departmental Exam Quota in various groups on the basis of Examination conducted by UPSC and SSC and thereafter they are appointed by the Ministry. So far as the vacancies in Seniority Quota is concerned, they are filled up on the basis of zone prescribed by DOPT. However as on date, the aforesaid O.M. stands modified
