Question : National Conference on Highway Equipment

(a) whether the Government has recently organized the National Conference on Highway
Equipment;

(b) if so, the details thereof including the issues discussed therein;

(c) the details of the new technologies and equipment that were showcased by various participants during the said conference;

(d) whether aforesaid conference will boost “Make in India” programme of the Government and construction of road projects in the country and if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the other steps Government proposes to take to boost the aforesaid programme of the Government?

(a) The National Conference on Highway Equipment was jointly organized by Indian Construction Equipment Manufacturers Association (ICEMA) and Indian Academy of Highway Engineers (IAHE) with the support of this Ministry.

(b) & (c) This conference was organized to focus on highways equipment standards, operators’ skill and to provide a platform for discussion and exchange of views among the various stakeholders on these issues. Regarding new technologies, warm mix, recycling, intelligent construction etc., which improve energy efficiency, sustainability, quality & productivity, and which are relatively new to India were discussed.

(d) & (e) In the conference, the plan and program of the Government for highway development were projected. The Indian equipment manufacturers were urged to take up indigenous manufacturing of such equipment in line with “Make in India” policy to meet the requirements of the highway development program.
