Question : PRIMARY EDUCATION TO TRIBALS



(a) whether the Government proposes to impart primary education for the tribal students in their mother tongue; and

(b) if so, the steps taken to implement the above proposal?

(a) & (b) The National Policy on Education 1986 as modified in 1992 stipulates the need to develop curricula and devise instructional materials in tribal languages at the initial stages, with arrangements for switching over to the regional language. This commitment has been adequately reflected in the National Curriculum Framework 2005, of NCERT.
