Question : SUBSIDY TO CALCUTTA PORT TRUST



(a) whether the Government are giving subsidy to Calcutta Port Trust for dredging: and

(b) if so, the details in this regard including the terms and conditions?

(a) Yes, Sir.
(b) The subsidy is granted as per the following terms and conditions:-

(i) to reimburse 100% of the cost on items directly related to river dredging and maintenance as well as the cost incurred on items directly related to maintenance dredging of shipping channel leading to Haldia from the year 1992-93 onwards provided that the depreciation on capital expenditure on Haldia Channel dredging will not qualify for subsidy;

(ii) to help the Calcutta Port Trust (CPT) to meet the expenditure as `on account` payment upto 90% of the amount payable towards subsidy during previous year may be made to the Port in the beginning of the following year;

(iii)adjustment of the instalments payable against Govt. loans together with the instalments from the amount reimbursable to CPT on account of dredging expenditure. During the current financial year, a sum of Rs 233.42 crores has been released to Calcutta Port Trust towards reimbursement of expenditure incurred by them on dredging.
