Question : Greenfield Airports

(a) the details and the number of Greenfield airports in the country and the status of expansion of old airports under construction, including Jharkhand and Arunachal Pradesh;

(b) the details of proposals pending with the Government for construction of second airport in the State of Jharkhand;

(c) whether the Government has fixed any timeframe for completion of the said airport;

(d) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor; and

(e) the details of the cost sharing between the Government''s and the State Government for the construction of new airport in Jharkhand?

(a): Government of India (GoI) has so far granted ''in-principle'' approval for setting up of 14 Greenfield airports namely, Mopa in Goa Navi Mumbai, Shirdi and Sindhudurg in Maharashtra Shimoga, Gulbarga, Hassan and Bijapur in Karnataka Kannur in Kerala Durgapur in West Bengal Pakyong in Sikkim Datia/Gwalior (Cargo) in Madhya Pradesh Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh and Karaikal in Puducherry. The commercial operations at Durgapur in West Bengal have already commenced on 18th May, 2015.

(b): GoI has granted ''Site Clearance'' to M/s. TATA Steel Ltd. for setting up of Greenfield Airport at Jamshedpur in Jharkhand in July 2012. As per Greenfield Airport Policy, the promoter has to further submit the application along with Detailed Project Report (DPR)/TEFS for ''in-principle'' approval, which has not been submitted. Further, AAI has signed an MoU for development of Deoghar Airport in Jharkhand with State Government. However, the State Government is yet to hand over the requisitioned land for development of the airport.

(c) & (d):The timeline for construction of airport projects depends upon various factors such as land acquisition, availability of mandatory clearances, financial closure, etc. by the individual operator. (e): As per MoU signed between AAI and Government of Jharkhand, State Government has to provide Rs. 50 crores out of the total anticipated cost of Rs. 350 crores for development of infrastructure facilities for operation of ATR-72 type of aircraft in Phase-I.
