(a) At present, the Govt. has no proposal for new Scheme/special package to States/UTs for empowerment/development of destitute/poor women and children in the country including tribal areas and especially Jharkhand.
However, Ministry of Women & Child Development is running/implementing schemes for Empowerment and Development of destitute/poor women and children in the country including tribal areas. Some of the key schemes are as follows:
i) Swadhar Greh Scheme: The Scheme caters to women victims of unfortunate circumstances in need of institutional support for rehabilitation, so that they can lead their life with dignity. The scheme covers 26 States and 4 UTs benefitting 12,208 women. An amount of Rs. 14.41 crores has been released during this financial year till date.
ii) Ujjawala: It is a comprehensive scheme that includes 5 components viz. from prevention of trafficking of women and children for commercial sexual exploitation to facilitate rescue, rehabilitate and re-integrate victims in to family and society as well as repatriate them across border, if needed. There are 133 Ujjawala Homes functioning across the country benefitting 5208 women & children.
iii) Anganwadi Services: The Scheme envisages setting up of Anganwadi centers across the country for pre-school children. There are 13.73 lakhs Anganwadi centers across the country. The scheme caters to the pre- school education, nutrition of children and lactating mothers.
iv) Poshan Abhiyan: The scheme aims to reduce mal-nutrition/under nutrition, anemia among young children and women from the country in a phased manner. It also targets to bring down stunting of the children in the age group of 0-6 years from 38.4% to 25% by the year 2022.
v) Pradhanmantri Matru Vandana Yojana(PMMVY): The Scheme provides cash incentives amounting to Rs. 5000 in 3 installment to pregnant/lactating mothers.
vi) Child Protection Scheme: Ministry supports, provides preventive care and rehabilitation services to those children in need of care/protection and those in conflict with law as defined under the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015. At present, Ministry assist 1508 homes 335 special adoption agencies and 267 open shelter homes through State/UT Govt.
vii) Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP): The aim of the scheme is to improve the child sex ratio and empowerment of women on a life cycle continuum with coordinated efforts of Ministries of Health and Family Welfare and Human Resource Development with Ministry of Women and Child Development.
viii) One Stop Centres: Popularly known as ‘Sakhi’ is implemented across the country since 2015. OSC provides with a range of integrated services under one roof such as police facilitation, providing legal aid and legal counseling, medical aid, temporary shelter etc. 506 OSC are operational across 33 States/UTs. Over 2.2 lakhs women have been assisted by OSCs.
ix) Home for Widows: A Home for Widows has been set up in Vrindavan, UP to provide widows a safe and secure place to stay and live their lives with dignity. It has old age friendly facilities too.
