(a) whether the Government have provided Rs. One crore to some selected cities for improving infrastructures in order to promote tourism;

STATEMENT IN REPLY TO PART (a) TO (d) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 547 TO BE ANSWERED ON 04.05.2000 REGARDING IMPROVEMENT OF INFRASTRUCTURES.

(a): For the Integrated Development of Tourist Centres/Pilgrim Centres, Ministry of Tourism asked the State/U.T. Governments to send one project proposal each in respectof Tourist and Pilgrim Centres located in their States for Central Assistance of Rs.50lakhs during 1998-99 and another 50 lakhs during 1999-2000 with matching contributionby the State/U.T. Governments.

(b): During 1998-99 and 1999-2000, an amount of Rs.1917.01 lakhs has been sanctioned for the development of infrastructure at 51 tourist centres and pilgrim centres identifiedunder the scheme.
(c) and (d): Review of project/schemes is an on-going process. Implementation of theprojects is undertaken by the respective State Governments/U.T. Administrations.
