Question : Iron Ore Mines in Odisha

(a)whether it is a fact that some iron ore mines in Odisha are facing closure resulting in the retrenchment of a huge work force;
(b)if so, the details of those mines;
(c)the reasons for closure of those mines;
(d)the number of workers likely to remain without job following the closure; and
(e)the steps taken to provide those workers with alternative jobs?

(a) to (c): The mining lease of 22 Iron Ore mines of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Sundergarh districts of Odisha are due to expire on 31.03.2020. So far, none of the mines have been closed and no workers have been terminated.
(d) & (e): Since the mines are working at present and therefore no official notice of retrenchment under Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 has been received by the Ministry of Labour & Employment.
