(a) and (b): National Sports Policy was framed in 2001 with the twin objectives of “Broad-basing of Sports” and “Achieving Excellence in Sports at the National and International levels”. The positive results are reflected in the best ever Medal Tally of India at the Tokyo Olympics, 2020 and the recent performance and medals won by Indian athletes at various international sporting events.
It is proposed to undertake a thorough review of the National Sports Policy in view of the massive changes which have taken place in the field of Sports during the last 20 years.
(c): Various measures have been taken by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports for better improvement at International Level. Sports Authority of India has established National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs) across the country to impart specialized training to promising athletes.
In order to groom the Grass root level/discipline appropriate age group athletes, SAI Training Centres(STC) are established in States and these act as feeder centres to NCoEs.
Under the scheme of Assistance to National Sports Federations (NSFs), the Ministry is providing assistance to recognized NSFs for conduct of Coaching Camps, Foreign Exposures/ training, equipment etc.
Under Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), the Ministry provides assistance to India’s top athletes in their preparations for Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Further, under Khelo India Scheme, Khelo India Talent Search and Development vertical has the mandate for identification of talent and nurturing them to attain highest levels of achievement at National and International sports event.
