MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS
(SHRI RAJEN GOHAIN)
(a) to (d) It is Railways endeavour to provide free potable water at all Railway Stations spread over length and breadth of the country and adequate arrangements have been made to provide free potable drinking water at stations to meet the demand of drinking water facilities, including at Neyyatinkara Railway Station. This station is supplied with drinking water with own source of open well. This station is provided with 6 Nos. of water taps against the requirement of 16 Nos. & with 3 Nos. of Toilets against the requirement of 4 Nos. The shortfall vis-a-vis the prescribed norms will be made good by March, 2019.
As per extant rules, NSG-5 category Stations do not qualify for provision of parking facilities. However, the station is provided with 1350 sq.m. of circulating area which also includes parking area. Neyyatinkara Station is already provided with 508 sq.m. of Platform Shelter on Platform No.1 and 173 sq.m. on Platform No.2 against the minimum requirement of 50 sq.m. on each Platform as per norms. However, additional Platform Shelter is planned along with the doubling of the line between Trivandrum & Kanyakumari. These amenities are considered adequate for the present volume of passenger traffic being handled at the station.
Further, improvement/augmentation of amenities at Stations is a continuous and on-going process. Works in this regard are undertaken depending upon need, volume of passenger traffic and inter-se priority subject to availability of funds.
