Question : JAWAHARLAL NEHRU NATIONAL SOLAR MISSION



(a) the present status of implementation of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission in the country alongwith the solar power plants set up under the Mission so far, State-wise;

(b) whether any State-wise target has been fixed for solar power generation under the Mission:

(c) if so, the details thereof;

(d) whether the Government proposes to specifically target the energy-deficient States in the country including Uttar Pradesh under the Mission; and

(e) if so, the details thereof and the other steps being taken or proposed to be taken by the Government to implement the Mission in the country?

Statement

A Statement referred to in reply to Parts (a),(b),(c),(d)&(e) of the Lok Sabha Starred Question No. 200 to be answered on 6th August, 2010

(a): Government has approved the implementation of the first phase of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (up to March, 2013) and the targets to set up 1,100 MW grid connected solar power plants including 100 MW of roof top and small capacity solar plants,200 MW capacity equivalent off-grid solar applications and 7 million sq. m. solar thermal collector area. Government has released the guidelines for selection of projects under these schemes in the last two months. No grid-connected solar power plant has been installed under the Mission as yet. However, during the last one year 10.1 MWp capacity grid connected solar power plants have been set up in the States of Delhi (1.05 MWp), Karnataka (6.0 MWp), Maharashtra (1.0 MWp), Punjab (1.0 MWp) and West Bengal (1.1 MWp).

(b): No State wise targets have been fixed for solar power generation.

(c); Does not arise.

(d)&(e): All State Governments including the energy deficient States can submit proposals under the scheme on off-grid solar applications to avail the subsidy and /or loan available from the Ministry. The proposals are to be submitted in project mode, where issues relating to supply, after-sales service and financial tie-up and sustainability of the project are adequately addressed. In addition to the Government agencies, additional channels including banks, energy supply companies, leading solar product manufacturers, other system integrators, NGOs and PSUs are eligible to be empanelled as a channel partner for the implementation of projects under this scheme.
