(a) the details of schemes / programmes taken up by the Union Government to popularise Science Education in Karnataka; and

(a) to (b): To improve the quality of science education and to improve scientific temper as envisaged in the National Policy on Education, 1986, Government of Karnataka has been provided financial assistance under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme, `Improvement of Science Education in Schools` to the extent of Rs. 29.61 crores since the inception of the scheme from 1987-88 to 1996- 97 for the following components:

-	Science kits to primary schools.	-	Setting up of new science laboratories in high schools and junior colleges.	-	Upgradation of science laboratories in high schools and junior colleges.	-	Supply of science books to high schools and junior colleges.	-	Training of science and mathematics teachers.	-	Strengthening of district resource centers.


No assistance has been provided to the Government of Karnataka so far during 2001-2002.
