Question : Establishment of IIITs

(a) whether the Government proposes to establish new Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof, State-wise/ UT-wise including Punjab;

(c) whether the Government has sanctioned any proposal for establishment of a new Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) at Ranchi in the State of Jharkhand and if so, the details thereof;

(d) whether the Ministry has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and the Memorandum of Association (MoA) with the State Government and also some private players in this regard; and

(e) if so, the details thereof and the time by which these institutions are likely to be established and become operational including at Ranchi?

(a) to (e) : Details of new IIITs approved for setting up are at Annexure-I.

An Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) in Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode in Ranchi was approved on 22/04/2015. There are three Industry Partners i.e. (i) Central Coalfields Limited, (ii) Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (TCS) and (iii) M/s Tata Motors, identified for IIIT-PPP Ranchi. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and the Memorandum of Association (MoA) between the State Government of Jharkhand, Central Government and Industry Partner(s) for setting up IIIT-PPP Ranchi, Jharkhand was signed on 12/12/2015.
