Question : GST Payment by Steel Companies

(a) whether some private sector steel companies particularly those operating in Odisha are not paying Goods and Services Tax (GST) for a long time;
(b) if so, the details of those steel companies and plants;
(c) the details of reasons as to why they have not submitted GST returns in the regular manner; and
(d) the reaction of the Government in this regard?

(a) and (b) Yes Sir. As on 28.01.2020, there are two private sector steel companies in Odisha which have not discharged their GST liability for last more than six months.

(c) According to section 39 of the Central Goods and Services Tax Act, every registered person other than a composition taxpayer is required to furnish monthly return giving details of his inward and outward supplies, input tax credit availed, tax paid and other particulars in FORM GSTR-3B.

(d) The Government has issued Circular No. 129/48/2019–GST dated 24.12.2019 which provides the Standard Operating Procedure to be followed in case of non-furnishing of GST return.
