Question : Model College

(a) whether it is a fact that six Model Degree Colleges (MDCs) to be set up in the State
of Andhra Pradesh have been approved;
(b) if so, the details of districts where MDCs are proposed to be set up;
(c) the Status of progress of each of the MDCs in Andhra Pradesh; and
(d) whether the Government has opinion that single model degree college in a district
helps in improving the quality and standard of higher education in the district?

(a) to (d): Improvement in quality and standard of higher education is an on-going
endeavour and the Central Government has been making a constant effort in this
direction. Education being in concurrent list, creation of new institutions is the
responsibility of both Central Government and the State Governments. However,
recognizing the need for central support for achieving the objectives of access, equity,
excellence by strategically funding the State Higher Education system, RUSA is being
implemented by the Ministry of Human Resource Development. Under RUSA,
assistance is provided to States for creation of new MDCs in Educationally Backward
Districts.
The Project Approval Board (PAB) of Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan
(RUSA) has approved setting up of six (6) Model Degree Colleges (MDCs) in the state
of Andhra Pradesh.
The utilisation of funds released under RUSA is closely monitored and further
releases of grants are subject to utilisation of funds already released. The detail of
MDCs along with the status of funds released are annexed.
