(a) whether the Government have formulated any long term policy for promotion of high technology products in the country?

(b) If so, the details thereof;

(a) to (d): The basic objectives of Technology Policy Statement(TPS) of 1983 of Government of India are development of indigenous technology, efficient absorption and adaptation of imported technology appropriate to national priorities and resources. To achieve the objectives of TPS, there are various programmes and schemes of the Government to support the development of technologies and their commercialization and this includes the development of high technology products. The schemes include Engineering Sciences programme of Scientific and Engineering Research Council, Joint Technology Programmes, Mission Programmes on Sugar Technology, Advance Composites and Fly Ash and Home Grown Technology Programme of Technology Information Forecasting and Assessment Council, the New Millennium Indian Technology Leadership Initiative and Programme Aimed at Technological Self-Reliance of Department of Scientific and Industrial Research and various other programmes of Department of Telecommunication, Department of Bio Technology and Ministry of Information Technology amongst others. Technology Development Board also facilitates development and commercialization of indigenous technologies.
