Question : Milk Production

(a) the annual milk production and demand in the country for the last five years ending March 2020, State-wise;
(b) whether the Government has set a target or formulated any plan to increase production of milk, if so,the details thereof;
(c) the details of programmes for improving the milk production in the country for achieving self-sufficiency in Dairy sector;
(d) whether the Government proposes to give any incentive to States in this regard, if so, the details thereof; and
(e) the details of other programmes in the Dairy sector for improving the earnings of dairy farmers?

(a) The annual milk production in the country for the last 5 years ending March 2020 State wise is given at Annexure-I. Data on demand of milk is not calculated by Animal Husbandry Statistics Division of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying. However, demand of milk is continuously growing in the country.

(b) to (e) In order to complement and supplement the efforts made by the States and Union Territories to enhance milk production productivity of bovines thereby increasing earning of farmers and to meet ever growing demand of milk Government of India has been implementing following major Central and Centrally Sponsored Schemes: (i) Rashtriya Gokul Mission; (ii) National Livestock Mission; (iii) Livestock Health and Disease Control Programme; (iv) National Animal Disease Control Programme; (v) National Programme for Dairy Development; (vi) Dairy Infrastructure Development Funds and (vi) Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund
