Question : Infrastructure Status to Logistics Sector

(a) whether the Government has given Infrastructure status to Shipyards and logistics sector in recent past;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government is planning to give same status to Coastal Ships built in the country; and

(d) if so, the detailed procedure, plan outlay and time-limit in this regard and impact of it on the entire sector?

(a) & (b): Government vide Gazette notification dated 8th April, 2016 has included “Shipyards” in the Harmonized Master List of Infrastructure Sub-sectors. As per the notification, “Shipyard” is defined as a floating or land-based facility with the essential features of waterfront, turning basin, berthing and docking facility, slipways and/or ship lifts, and which is self sufficient for carrying on shipbuilding/repair/breaking activities.

Government vide Gazette notification dated 14th November, 2017 has included “Logistics Infrastructure” in the Harmonized Master List of Infrastructure Sub-sectors. As per the notification, "Logistics Infrastructure” means and includes Multimodal Logistics Park comprising Inland Container Depot (ICD) with minimum investment of Rs 50 crore and minimum area of 10 acre, Cold Chain Facility with minimum investment of Rs 15 crore and minimum area of 20,000 sft, and/or Warehousing Facility with investment of minimum Rs 25 crore and minimum area of 1 lakh sq ft.

(c) & (d): There is no proposal under consideration to give infrastructure status to coastal ships built in Indian shipyards.
