Question : Construction of New Airport at Navi Mumbai

(a) whether the construction work of a new airport in Navi Mumbai is being carried out on extremely slow speed;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor;

(c) whether the Government proposes to complete the construction work of the said airport within a fixed time limit;

(d) if so, the details thereof and the time limit fixed for the same; and

(e) the measures taken to complete the construction work of the new airport in Mumbai as soon as possible?

(a) & (b): No Madam. As reported by City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Limited (CIDCO), although the airport project is facing challenges, however as on date all clearances have been obtained except the stage-II forest clearance, which is expected shortly. RFP and Bid documents have been issued to the qualified bidders on 4th May, 2016.

(c) to (e): Yes Madam. Selection of Concessionaire on PPP basis shall be finalized by December 2016. All major clearances have been obtained. 160 ha of land have been acquired. Resettlement & Rehabilitation (R&R) awards are declared. Rental Scheme to shift PAPs from project area has been approved by CIDCO Board. Phase 1 of aircraft operations with capacity to handle 10 million passengers per annum is expected to commence by December 2019.
