Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF RURAL DEVELOPMENT
(SADHVI NIRANJAN JYOTI)

(a): State/UT-wise details of average days of employment provided per households under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (Mahatma Gandhi NREGS) in financial years 2020-21 and 2021-22 (as on 30.03.2022) is given at Annexure-I.

(b): Mahatma Gandhi NREGS is a demand driven wage employment programme. There is no State/UT-wise financial allocation under the Scheme. Under Mahatma Gandhi NREGS, States/UTs submit funds release proposals to Government of India. Fund release to the States/UTs is a continuous process and Central Government is committed in making funds available to States/UTs for the implementation of the Scheme. The Ministry release funds periodically in two tranches with each tranche consisting of one or more installments, keeping in view the “agreed to” Labour Budget, demand for works, opening balance, pace of utilization of funds, pending liabilities, overall performance and subject to submission of relevant documents by the State/UT.

There was a budget allocation of Rs. 73,000 crore at Budget Estimate (BE) stage under Mahatma Gandhi NREGS, which is enhanced to Rs. 98,000 crore at Revised Estimate (RE) stage with an increase of Rs. 25,000 crore during the current financial year 2021-22.

State/UT-wise details of fund released under Mahatma Gandhi NREGS in current financial 2021-22 as on 28.02.2022 are given at Annexure-II.
