Question : EXTENSION OF IGNOAPS



(a) whether the Government is considering the extension of Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAPS) to all Senior Citizens living Below Poverty Line (BPL);

(b) if so, whether the Government shall consider enhancement of existing pension with periodic revision in relation to cost of living index;

(c) if so, the details thereof;

(d) whether additional pension shall be given for disability and loss of earning members;

(e) if so, the details thereof;

(f) whether the Government has any proposal to establish separate Senior Citizens Welfare Department; and

(g) if so, the details thereof?

(a): Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAPS) has been extended to all persons who are 60 years and above living below the poverty line.

(b)&(c): The rate of central assistance is increased from time to time depending on the availability of resources. At present, there is no proposal under consideration for enhancement of existing pension with periodic revision in relation to cost of living index.

(d)&(e): At present there is no proposal for giving additional pension under IGNOAPS for disability and loss of earning members.
