Question : Power Consumption

(a) whether it is a fact that rate of energy consumption in the country has been reported to be highest among major economies in 2014-15;

(b) if so, the details thereof along with the growth rate of energy consumption during the last five years;

(c) whether the growth in energy consumption is considered to be indicative of economic revival;

(d) if so, the parameters laid down in this regard along with its adverse effect on the environment; and

(e) the steps taken by the Union Government to maintain ecological balance?

(a) & (b) : According to BP Plc''s Statistical Review of World Energy, 2015, India''s energy consumption grew at 7.1% in 2014, which is one of the highest among major economies.

The energy consumption in the country during last 5 years is given below :
