Question : REQUIREMENT OF COAL



(a)whether the Government has ever conducted a study or assessment about the requirement of coal for producing I MW of power;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government has taken it into consideration before allocation of coal blocks; and

(d) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a)&(b): As per information received from Central Electricity Authority (CEA), in order to produce 1 MW of power, about 5,210 Metric Tonne of coal is required per annum, considering average specific coal consumption of 0.7 Kilogram/Kilowatt Hour and 85% plant load factor.

(c)&(d):Norms of Coal consumption with regard to Power Sector obtained from Ministry of Power and CEA were considered during auction of coal blocks.
