Question : New NHs & Expansion of Existing NHs

(a) whether the Union Government is planning to execute many National Highways projects including new NHs and expansion of existing NHs in Tamil Nadu;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the total cost of the each project envisaged;

(c) whether the Government has plans to provide suitable compensation package for the land owners for acquisition of their land;

(d) if so, the details thereof and the total funds allocated for the same; and

(e) whether this amount would be disbursed directly by the Union Government to the land owners or through the Government of Tamil Nadu and if so, the details thereof?

(a) and (b) Development and Maintenance of National Highways is a continuous process. Depending on the inter-se-priority, availability of funds, detailed survey & investigation, Projects for development of new as well as existing NHs in Tamil Nadu are sanctioned. In the Financial Year 2017-18, 66 nos. of projects costing Rs. 12400.00 Cr were sanctioned for NH projects in Tamil Nadu.

(c) to (e) Provision for compensation for land acquisition to the land owners, is based on awards as per Right to Fair compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (RFCTLARR) Act, 2013 made by Competent Authority for Land Acquisition (CALA) appointed by Central Government. The compensation amount will be disbursed by CALA.
